Frank and Annie's Photography
Frank Whitworth, my dad, was introduced to photography at an early age by
his father, Wilson, who was the secretary of Bolton Camera Club in the 1920's.
The BCC minutes record that Frank was admitted as a junior member of the club on 5th Oct 1922
when he was 9 years old. The two of them went on field trips together.
The surviving photographs taken by Frank are on 35 mm slides, his being a pre-digital time,
and date from the early 60's through to the early 70's. This of course means digitising his
collection for display here.
Annie, my mum, took up photography to record her travels after Frank
died. Starting with Turkey in 1975 , she worked her way ever further east. She visited Australia a couple of times, once as part of a round the world trip,
taking in Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Tahiti and the USA. I think she surprised herself
with her talent for photography.
Frank and Annie lived and a worked in Darwen, Lancashire, for most of their married life.
